The transformation of a former industrial site in Winnington is continuing after Anwyl was given the green light to build 103 new homes. Cheshire West and Chester Council this week approved the second phase of Winnington Place, which is taking shape on part of the former Winnington Business Park site, off Winnington Avenue. It brings the total number of homes being built by Anwyl in Winnington to 227. John Grime, managing director of Anwyl Homes Lancashire, said:
“Securing planning approval for second phase of Winnington Place means we can continue to redevelop a former brownfield site to provide much-needed new homes. This latest phase of 103 new homes will effectively be a continuation of our existing development. Along with housing, we’ll also be enhancing the environment surrounding the homes with more than 3,000 square metres of open space, including a wildlife corridor, plus allotments and play areas for residents to enjoy.
“Almost all 124 properties in the original phase have now been sold, with many of them occupied. Demand is such that we already have a waiting list of people interested in these latest homes, which we’ll soon be releasing for sale.”
The new phase will offer 87 private sale properties in a mix of three and four-bedroom designs, including some set out over two and a half storeys, plus 16 affordable homes. All homes across Winnington Place benefit from an electric vehicle charging point. As part of Anwyl’s commitment to the environment and ensuring its developments are sustainable, homes on the second phase will feature photovoltaic panels.
“Based on annual household bills over the last calendar year, it’s estimated that a new build home is £2,600 cheaper to run than an older property. Those who have PV panels fitted to their homes should find they’re able to enjoy further savings. Plus, by reducing their reliance on the grid and using renewable energy instead, they’ll be helping the planet too,” John added.
Anwyl acquired two parcels of land at the former Winnington Business Park site from FI Real Estate Management in early 2020. In September that year plans for the initial 124 homes, together with landscaping, public open space, roads and associated infrastructure were approved. The first homes were released for sale in February 2021. Work on the site is expected to continue until late 2026.
To support the growth of the neighbourhood and as part of the planning agreement linked to the second phase of Winnington Placea5, Anwyl will invest around £700,000 in the local community. This will include almost £390,000 towards local education provision, with financial contributions of almost £170,000 to improve local parks and facilities, more than £110,000 for healthcare and £30,000-plus for highways.
Located between Northwich and Hartford, Winnington is close to a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes, and an excellent choice of schools; and there are plenty of parks, woodlands and scenic walks to enjoy nearby. It also has excellent road links to the M56 and A556 making it ideal for commuters.
