Anwyl Homes showed they're good sports - gifting £1,000 to Burscough-based Sporting Challenge. The donation was via the “Love From Anwyl” funding pot, a voluntary scheme supporting good causes in the area surrounding the homebuilder’s Priory Gardens development. Sporting Challenge used its funding towards the cost of running activities for adults with learning disabilities. It offers a range of sports sessions such as aerobics, bowling, boccia, kurling, pool, walks and golf for people across West Lancashire including those living in Burscough, Ormskirk, Parbold and Skelmersdale. The charity’s Activities Organiser Edward McCarthy explained:
“Sporting Challenge is a family-led charity, with most of our trustees parents and carers themselves. There are many benefits to the broad spectrum of sporting activities we offer. The adults taking part have improved levels of fitness by having the chance to do something that they enjoy with the support of our staff. It also helps build their confidence, make new friends and develop life skills such as turn taking and following rules.
“In turn, the sessions offer carers and families much needed respite for a few hours each week with the knowledge that the members are safe, understood and supported. We’re grateful to Anwyl for helping subsidise the cost of the sessions.”
The Love from Anwyl Burscough Fund is linked to the Priory Gardens development, on Chancel Way, where Anwyl is building 267 new homes. It’s a voluntary scheme, being offered in addition to local investment agreed during the planning process. Other good causes in Burscough and the surrounding area to benefit from support Love from Anwyl include 45 th Burscough Methodist Scouts, Burscough Village Primary School, 29th Ormskirk Burscough St John’s Scout Group and Community Lives Matter. Area sales manager Amy Houlihan said:
“The premise behind Love from Anwyl is to support good causes near where we’re building. Sporting Challenge stood out as a worthy beneficiary helping adults with learning disabilities stay fit and active, while also supporting their wider wellbeing and that of their parents and carers. We hope members of Sporting Challenge have lots of fun trying different sports with the help of funding ‘Love from Anwyl’.”
