Four Anwyl site managers have scooped prestigious Pride in the Job “Quality” Awards from the NHBC. Ian Palmer, won for his role in overseeing work at The Oaks at Rossbank in Ellesmere Port; Carl Noble, for Alexandra Gardens in Crewe; Adam Labno for Deva Green in Chester and Steve Parry for Croes Atti in Oakenholt. They were among just 444 winners from 8,000-plus entrants across the UK. Ian has won six “Quality” awards in a row, with half of them awarded while he’s been overseeing construction at The Oaks, where up to 50 people work on a typical day.
“This was probably the hardest one to win and the one I’m proudest of because of the volume of homes we’re delivering while maintaining quality standards,” project manager Ian, 35, from Birkenhead, explained.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the site team, including site manager Jacob Hird and my dad Ian, who’s the assistant site manager here. He has years of valuable experience in all aspects of construction so it’s great to have him involved. Having the mentality to succeed is important and we have all of the trades on site on board. We’ve created an ethos of getting the job right first time so that we are handing over quality homes to customers.”
It’s a fourth win for Carl and the second he’s won while working at Alexandra Gardens in Crewe.
“We have 50 to 60 people working on site and we all have the same goal – delivering high quality new homes for our purchasers,” Carl, 50, from Audlem, said.
“Winning these awards give you such a good feeling and the recognition helps keep the team motivated to be consistent and maintain standards.”
Adam, 36 from Bebington, has worked in the construction industry in various roles since 2004 and joined Anwyl 18 months ago.
“This is my first Pride in the Job “Quality” Award and I’m made up to have won. As a site manager it’s great to have that recognition,” Adam said.
“I’m a people person and that helps when you’re overseeing 40 people on site every day. Winning the award wouldn't have been possible without a fantastic support network. I have a tremendous amount of gratitude to the Deva Green trades and site team.”
Steve, 61, from Prestatyn has been overseeing construction at Croes Atti for over two years. He has worked for Anwyl for 38 years, 28 of those as a site manager.
“I won my first Pride in the Job Award last year with the help and support of the team on site at Croes Atti. That experience meant that we knew the standards the inspectors were looking for and could build on that initial success,” Steve said.
“Having the same trades on site has made it easier – we have some excellent people working on site. It’s all about communication and trying to reach the same goal. It’s a team effort and I couldn’t have done it without the team around me.”
The Pride in the Job awards have been running for 43 years and provide a benchmark for exceptional site managers. The rigorous inspection and scoring process includes attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
