A school in Longridge is ensuring children are on the right path to a healthy future after Anwyl Homes stepped in to help. Barnacre Road Primary School and Nursery, which is close to Anwyl’s Stonebridge Fold development, received £1,000 to help improve its outdoor space. Teacher Ruth Burton explained:
We approached Anwyl for help to improve and extend access to the allotment area in our school grounds with a pathway that can be used in all weathers without having to go across grass and bark chips. The pathway works carried out with Anwyl’s help mean it’s much more accessible and can now accommodate wheelchairs or pushchairs. The allotment area is used to teach children about the natural environment. We also have links with Christ Church and Longridge Hall care home and the improved access will enable us to extend our multigenerational activities to include gardening.
The donation to the school was via the Love From Anwyl community pot attached to homes being built at Stonebridge Fold, close to Longridge town centre, Lawrence Gardens in the semi-rural village of Barton; and the recently completed Bluebell Meadows, in Fulwood. It’s a voluntary scheme, being offered in addition to local investment agreed during the planning process and has seen £5,000 shared amongst good causes in the communities in and around where Anwyl is building. Imogen Suffell, area sales manager for Anwyl Homes Lancashire, said:
It’s important that young people learn about the natural environment, healthy lifestyles and ways of living more sustainably such as growing their own fruit and veg. When we heard that the school needed help to improve access to the allotment area we were happy to be able to step in with a donation towards the cost of the pathway works. Improving access also means that children can share their love of the outdoors with older members of the community.
