Things to Do in the Wirral: Indoor Activities, Party Venues & More

According to the Wirral Intelligence Service - which sounds like a Wirral-specific version of MI5 - around 320,200 people lived in the Wirral as of 2024. That’s a reasonable population for a seaside extension of Merseyside, and, like any lively region, there’s plenty going on - from fitness and work opportunities to leisure and entertainment. That means that you’ll find a wide range of things to do in the Wirral, whether you’re going out with friends or taking the kids on a day trip.

Things to do with kids in the Wirral

Are your restless little ones keeping you up at night? If school has failed to wear them out, it might be time to try out some strategies after home time. Whether they’re unleashing their creativity at a workshop or bouncing their hearts out at a trampoline park, there are plenty of ways to wind the kids down next to the Mersey. If you’re wondering what to do with the kids in your free time, here are some of the Wirral’s best solutions for expending their energy.

Bounce at a trampoline park

Everyone needs to get their blood pumping and the endorphins flowing somehow. You can try to take the little ones to the gym, but it probably won’t go very well - especially with all that heavy machinery! Until they’re old enough, you’ll need to find a different solution, and in the Wirral, that alternative is the Jumpin’ Josephs Trampoline Park. You can book the kids in for up to two hours, letting them bounce out the sillies across 19,000 square feet of trampolines.

Take them to soft play

If your tots are getting bored and destructive, you can’t go wrong with some good old-fashioned soft play. You have plenty of options in the Wirral area, from Bubbles’ World of Play in New Brighton to the Mini Monsters Fun House south of Heswall. Soft play is one of the best ways to let your little one expand their horizons in a safe environment, inspiring imagination and encouraging new friendships.

Go pottery painting

If the kids have been getting their hands on felt tips recently, swift action might be necessary in order
to save your walls. Luckily, you can redirect their creativity with a simple art class in Hoylake - pottery painting!
The Potting Shed is a popular party venue in the Wirral, where you can book a table and let the kids paint whatever they want on your choice of pottery. You can even have them decorate a brand new kitchen set for you!  grant-durr-VFGsKggiMAA-unsplash

Indoor activities in the Wirral for rainy days

If you’re tired of playing board games at home for the whole month of October, it’s time to stretch your legs, as there are plenty of alternative activities for when it’s raining. From a mini golf competition to a stroll through the Lady Lever Art Gallery, the area provides a range of activities for indoor explorers. Here are a few of our favourite things to do in the Wirral on a rainy day.

Challenge your friends to mini golf

When the weather is too harsh to play full-scale golf, Mini Golf Adventures is waiting for you inside the Arrowe Commercial Park. Embark on a neon space adventure or descend to the depths of Atlantis across 18 holes, whether you’re taking the kids out for the evening or meeting up with your friends for a few tipsy putts. A bar is available on-site to keep the drinks flowing throughout your game.

Play an escape room in a historic fort

Set in a real 200-year-old fort at the mouth of the Mersey, Escape the Fort is a Second World War themed escape room for two to six players. It has two themed rooms - The Watch Tower and The Dambusters - where you can solve lifesaving coding problems with your trusty crew. It’s the perfect rainy-day activity, popular with friend groups, colleagues and even grouchy teenagers.

Visit a local farm shop

A favourite with the locals, Claremont Farm is the perfect destination for a rainy day. Cozy up in their café with a warm drink before browsing their wide range of home and locally grown produce in their farm shop. And once the weather clears up, you can also take a walk around the entire grounds to see the local fauna and flora, as well as the crops they grow.

Browse an art gallery in Port Sunlight

Port Sunlight is a fancy model village in central Wirral, initially designed to be a home for soapmakers in 1888 and built to include everything they needed in life: comfortable homes, beautiful architecture and extensive green spaces. It was, by all rights, the first new build development! Because of its iconic design features, it quickly became a hub of arts and culture, and the Lady Lever Art Gallery remains at the heart of it to this day. Its current collection includes Lord Leighton's Daphnephoria, as well as George Morland’s Roadside Alehouse.

Things to do outdoors in the Wirral

Looking for a way to spend those bright summer days? Entertainment in the Wirral isn’t limited to the gloomy months, as there are plenty of reasons to go outside if you’re feeling stir crazy at home. From challenging your friends to a paintball game to racing around a go-kart track, you’ll never run out of open-air activities in the Wirral.

Compete with your friends at paintballing

Tired of art galleries and museum trips? Ready for a bit more action? Paintballing is an excellent way to get your exercise in for the week, especially if you tend to be competitive. S.W.A.T is the Wirral’s very own paintball centre, complete with airsoft rifles and a wooded combat zone, and it’s the perfect way to end (or create) rivalries with your friends.

Race around a go-karting track

If you’ve ever dreamed of driving around the open tarmac of a sprawling airfield, those dreams are about to be realised. The Hooton Park Circuit is an outdoor go-karting track built across the grounds of Hooton’s ex-airfield, popular among hobbyists and future racers alike. Regular visitors can even get a membership, which gives discounted access to the track.

Paddleboard in West Kirby

Why live by the sea if you can’t get your feet wet? Luckily, the Wirral has plenty of opportunities to do just that - and one of the easiest ways to take a dip is to fall off your paddleboard. The West Kirby Lake is located on the edge of the River Dee, a closed-off section of deep water that protects swimmers, canoeists and boaters from unpredictable currents. It’s the perfect place to paddleboard, and you can even book in with an instructor if you’d like to practise your watersport skills.
