Supporting girls football with donation to West Didsbury & Chorlton FC

Young footballers at West Didsbury & Chorlton FC have donned new training tops thanks to a £770 donation.

The funding, from our Dalton Fields Community Fund, provided 20 waterproof rain jackets for the club’s newly formed Girls Under18 team, helping players stay warm and dry during training sessions.

Based in Chorlton, the Under18s squad was created to tackle the significant drop in girls’ participation in sport between the ages of 16 and 18.

The team focuses on keeping teenagers active and supporting a positive transition into women’s football. The club has already seen strong success, with 18 players progressing into women’s teams to date.

Dave Anwyl, coach of the West Didsbury & Chorlton FC Girls Under18s team, said:

“As the team has grown, ensuring all players have suitable kit has become a key priority. By providing rain jackets for every squad member, the club can avoid placing additional financial pressure on families.

“Keeping girls involved in football at this age can be a real challenge and feeling confident and part of a team makes a huge difference. This support means we can kit every player out equally, keep our fees affordable and make sure the girls can train and play whatever the weather. We’re really grateful to Anwyl Homes and the Dalton Fields Community Fund for backing our team and supporting girls’ football in the area.”

The donation reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in the communities surrounding our Dalton Fields development in Chorlton.

We work in partnership with JP & Brimelow at the site, with JP & Brimelow also longstanding sponsors of West Didsbury & Chorlton FC’s men’s first team.

Phoebe Davies, head of regional marketing at Anwyl Homes, said: “Through the Dalton Fields Community Fund, we’re proud to support projects that deliver real, lasting benefits locally. This team is doing fantastic work to keep teenage girls engaged in sport, build confidence and create pathways into women’s football.

“Providing something as simple but essential as weatherappropriate kit helps remove barriers to participation, and we’re delighted to play our part.”

The Dalton Fields Community Fund is part of Love From Anwyl, the housebuilder’s voluntary initiative to support charities, grassroots organisations and community groups close to its developments.
