Nine ways to Freshen Up your Home for Spring

Here's our suggestions for a Spring home refresh and how to bring some sunnier days into your home As the clocks go forwards, it’s time to freshen up for Spring (and Summer). Here are our suggestions for a Spring home refresh and how to bring some sunshine into your home after a rather long and dreary winter.

Bust the dust and tidy up

A good spring clean all through the house will lift everyone’s spirits, honestly! Get into all the corners with some new brushes, squeegees and feather dusters that will help tackle every inch and dust trap. A squeegee makes short work of windows (inside and out), shower-screens, mirrors and glass splashbacks. For hard floors, consider the cordless Vax ONEPWR Glide 2 to wash, extract and dry in one go. For a fresh fragrance whilst cleaning, Probiotic products from Nookary work brilliantly. Top Tip: Whisk a feather duster around electricals too, such as TV boxes, alarm sensors and wi-fi equipment to keep everything gleaming and dust-free. Spring into organisation

It’s not just cleaning that helps with the Spring vibe, it’s getting organised too. Even the smallest bit of organisation brings on that slightly pleased-with-oneself feeling that a little bit of control has been regained. Airtight transparent storage containers, such as these from Vonhaus, are super-useful in the kitchen, whether they’re out on display or inside the store-cupboard. Top Tip: Transparent containers make it easy to keep an eye on stock levels! If you're finding the washing is getting out of control, consider a laundry basket in each bedroom to keep the chaos under control, and even better if you can persuade everyone to bring their own washing basket down. Perhaps a selection of stylish baskets will make that task seem more tempting!

Bring in Spring shelf décor

Spruce up a shelf for spring with some pretty candle and tealights. Colourful dinner candles, such as these, available from Dobbies can be placed in glass bottles – including your leftover wine or Champagne bottles. Arrange these at different heights across a shelf to create your own Spring shelf centrepiece! Stems of lavender add an individual touch of colour, whilst eucalyptus is perfect for adding some greenery. Consider Chinoiserie influence

Decorate for Spring with a little splurge on some cheerful cushions. If you’re looking for an effective way of injecting a touch of Spring into your décor, a new bunch of cushions will do the job admirably. It's a quick and cost-effective way of brightening up and ringing the change of seasons in the living room! These ones from the FabFunky team are perfect if you're looking to invite more colours to your sofa.

Switch up your scents

Bring a touch of Spring into your home by burning a scented candle that is designed for exactly this time of year. The Loriest & Co collection has candles for each month of the year. The Notes of April fragrance has touches of bluebell, woodlands and blossom trees, and adds floral freshness to a newly Spring-cleaned home. Top Tip: Remember to burn candles safely – never leave a lit candle unattended and check all candles are extinguished safely at the end of the evening.

Clever storage solutions

If you’re in peak decluttering mode, then a sweep through the children’s bedrooms is usually very productive. Once all the stray socks and odd toys have been picked up, it’s then time to sift through all the bits and pieces to re-organise. Storage beds come into their own in this scenario, and the Olivia Mid Sleeper Bed with Storage is very good option if you want to encourage youngsters to help. This model has lift-up lid storage boxes within the steps, plus open shelves at the end and a desk area below. Fake it with faux flowers

Decorate for Spring with a splash of blooms that will outlast Spring and look wonderful all Summer long too. With no need to worry about the blooms drooping and dropping, a display of faux flowers will add a continuing  seasonal, cheerful look to your home. This Spring Pinks bouquet includes delights such as Icelandic poppies, eucalyptus and mimosa, although each bouquet is hand-tied to order so they can vary – it's sure to be an investment piece that will take you through the sunshine seasons to come!

Blitz the bathroom

A tidy-up and declutter in the bathroom will give a Spring vibe and adding a few new accessories can switch up the look. Our bathrooms have become sanctuaries – not just for a quick wash and brush up in the mornings, but for a relaxing bit of ‘me time’ too. Keep things looking calm and sophisticated with a bamboo tumbler, soap dish and mirror, and some glass jars with cork lids. Add fresh fragrance with Saffron & Tonka Sahara scented candles, all from George Home. Botanicals for the bedroom

A quick and easy way of giving the entire bedroom a very spectacular make-over is to switch the bedlinen. Perhaps you’ve been snuggling down in greys and blues for a Winter look? Well now is the right time of year to go Spring spectacular! With this Botany bed set by Sanderson from The French Bedroom Company, the bedroom is full of flowers, butterflies and greenery. Perfect for a white or ivory room, but we’re also imagining this linen against green or pink walls for an even brighter pop of colour.
