A group of volunteers have received funding from a local home builder to keep a Holmes Chapel village centre looking lush. The Village Volunteers were awarded £870 by Anwyl Homes, who are building the nearby Victoria Mills development, to purchase new plants and half barrel planters located throughout the village centre. The donation was one of several from the ‘Love from Anwyl’ funding pot, which shared a total of £5,000 between good causes in Holmes Chapel. Organisers of the Holmes Chapel Village Volunteers, Naomi Sumpter, Graham Povey and Alison Wright said:
“We’re grateful to Anwyl for helping us keep Holmes Chapel looking lovely. The money also went towards topsoil and a selection of annual and perennial plants, which will provide colour and warmth to the village all year round. “Additionally, we have purchased some brushes to allow us to clean up after our work as previously the volunteers used their own equipment.”
The group believes that outdoor work brings health benefits for the volunteers while providing opportunities to meet new people and creating a shared sense of community.
“Holmes Chapel Village Volunteers are passionate about keeping our village clean and tidy and looking it’s best,” they added. “We include both adult and junior members. Young people can engage in a fun, interactive way, and learn about respecting our community.”
The volunteer group also undertakes litter picking and other gardening work, including looking after several flower beds and planters across the village on behalf of the parish council. Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said:
“The Village Volunteers are an asset to Holmes Chapel, keeping the village looking its best and bringing the community together. We were really pleased to fund the new planters in the village centre, and they do really brighten up the village.”
Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to 138 new homes being built at Victoria Mills, where two brand new show homes are now open to view. It’s in addition to local investment agreed during the planning process. See www.anwyl.co.uk/victoriamills to find out more.
