A chippy tea topped off an afternoon of celebrations in Shavington to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The Shavington Village Festival Committee hosted the community concert in St Marks Church on Saturday, May 10th.
Celebrations included live music and a ‘quiz of the day’. A fish and chip supper was also served up for attendees, which was paid for thanks to a £651 donation from our Love from Anwyl Shavington fund.
Chair of the committee Erica Wood said: “We’re all volunteers and wanted to create a fun celebration for all. The money kindly donated by Anwyl Homes covered the cost of our fish and chips from the Shavington Fish Bar, while the Shavington Village Festival Committee funded the church hire, rehearsal rooms, and quiz prizes. It was a fabulous way to mark this special VE Day anniversary in our community.”
The committee also organises the annual Shavington Pantomime as well as the Shavington Village Festival, which will be taking place on June 28, on the Shavington Primary School field.
Phoebe Davies, head of regional marketing for Anwyl Homes, said: “The Shavington Village Festival Committee host events for the local community throughout the year, bringing people together and playing a key role in creating a strong sense of community spirit in the village. We were very happy to assist with funding towards their VE Day concert.”
Our donation to the VE Day event was from the £5,000 Love from Anwyl Shavington fund, which has so far been shared between six local groups including an anglers association, local Scout group, Shavington Primary School, Shavington Academy and Shavington cum Gresty Parish Council.
Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to the 84 new homes we’re building at Queen’s Meadow, across eight acres of land on Newcastle Road.
It’s in addition to almost £600,000 worth of community contributions we have already agreed to, including £70,000 towards recreation and outdoor sports, £225,000 towards educational provision, over £80,000 towards local NHS healthcare provision, £20,000 towards community facilities within Shavington-Cum-Gresty Parish Council and £20,000 towards community facilities within Wynbunbury Parish Council.
