Swinging into action for hospices

Written by Anwyl Homes | 27 Aug 2024

We’ve clubbed together with our suppliers and contractors to raise more than £3,500 for Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices.

Our Cheshire and North Wales team organised the charity golf day, held at Portal Championship Course in Tarporley.

In total, 72 golfers teed up, in 18 teams of four, including our colleagues and from businesses who support us as part of our supply chain.

Iain Murray, construction director for our North Wales and Cheshire division, said: “As a family-run business, with many of our staff parents themselves, we appreciate the important work of Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices and the role they play in the community. We’re a long-term supporter of the charity, having donated more than £130,000 over the years. We’re grateful to everyone who backed our latest fundraiser. The golf day was a real success raising £2,170 from raffle tickets alone. Thanks to suppliers and subcontractors sponsoring tees across the course we raised a total of £3,670.”

The event included breakfast and registration ahead of a 12noon shotgun start.

There was also a barbecue and raffle, with guest speaker Liverpool FC and Wales legend Dean Saunders. Prize giving rounded off the fundraiser with prizes for the top three winning teams, longest drive, nearest the pin and loser beans for the team in last place.

Nicola Eyes, area fundraiser for Hope House and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices, said: “We are so grateful for the support of Anwyl which has been continuous for over 20 years. The day itself was great fun and the golfers were in high spirits, it made for an amazing day. The funds so generously donated will go directly to helping provide vital care and support to local children with life threatening illnesses.”

Hope House and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices undertake vital work in caring for more than 750 families across Shropshire, Cheshire, Mid and North Wales. Just two months’ income comes from statutory sources and the charity relies on donations to cover costs for the other 10 months of the year.
