Success of affordable housing delivery in Cheshire

Written by Anwyl Homes | 28 Nov 2025

The handover of the final affordable homes in Winnington concludes a successful partnership between us and Weaver Vale Housing Trust in the Cheshire town.

Our Winnington Place development has transformed previously developed land which was formerly part of a business park into a vibrant new neighbourhood of 227 new homes, including 31 affordable properties

Construction is almost complete, and the final affordable homes have been handed over to Weaver Vale Housing Trust, who are preparing to welcome their latest residents onto the development.

The affordable housing delivered includes one and two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent and two and three-bedroom shared ownership houses.

Paul Darwin, land director at Anwyl Homes Lancashire, said: “Over the past three years we’ve worked closely with Weaver Vale Housing Trust to deliver much needed affordable rent and shared ownership homes to help address local needs. Our excellent site team, led by Scott Owen and Keith Best, have delivered the high-quality homes on time, alongside our private sales properties – even trialling our first timber frame affordable housing to great success. The strong relationship we’ve forged with Weaver Vale is a prime example of how we can work in partnership with Registered Partners to deliver the high quality, energy efficient homes people want and need.”

We’re delivering affordable homes across the majority of its developments. Through Anwyl Partner Projects we’re looking to work with Registered Partners and investors to deliver additionality,100% affordable housing schemes and Private Rented Sector developments.

Gemma Wood, director of regeneration & new homes at Weaver Vale Housing Trust, said: “We’re proud to mark this exciting milestone as we take handover of the last phase of new homes at Winnington Place. With affordable housing becoming harder to access for many, we remain committed to building new homes and creating more opportunities for people to settle and thrive.

“Our ongoing partnership with Anwyl Homes continues to deliver high quality, affordable housing that helps people find the homes they need, while supporting the growth of sustainable, welcoming communities that residents are proud to call home.

Neil Tatton of Resolve106 brokered the affordable deal and assisted the process of delivery including a variation to the existing s106 for both phases of Winnington Place.

Neil said: “It’s great to see the delivery of affordable housing come to a successful conclusion on this site. Anwyl are a housebuilder that Registered Providers are keen to engage with due to the partnership approach they offer. At Resolve106 our objective is always to make the transaction process as seamless as possible, whilst adding value to both parties through a constructive review of affordable housing obligations.”

Along with the new homes at Winnington we have invested in the local community with financial contributions agreed during the planning process worth circa £1.2 million allocated to education, healthcare, highways, parks, play spaces and sports pitches.
