A Handforth scout group is on the up after receiving a £1,000 boost from Anwyl Homes towards new climbing equipment. The 1 st Handforth Scouts were awarded £1,000 to go towards new climbing helmets and safety harnesses. It’s one of the donations made by the housebuilder from its ‘Love from Anwyl’ funding pot to help local not-for-profit organisations close to its development at The Fairways. Stephen Killilea, Scout group leader said:
"We endeavour to help broaden the opportunities for young people in Handforth. One of the most popular activities we offer is climbing and we have used Anwyl’s generous funding towards new helmets and harnesses to support our growing numbers. We have a climbing wall at the scout hut. It’s great for building confidence and fitness and encouraging our members to try something new. It’s just one of the superb facilities we presently offer 1st Handforth Scouts.”
The 1st Handforth Scouts have continued to grow over recent years. They have more than 90 active members who meet throughout the week as Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers, and are the only organisation in Handforth providing activities for girls and boys aged from six to 18 years old. Graeme Gibb, sales director for Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales, said:
“The First Handforth Scouts are a core part of the community and offer some amazing activities for their members. We were pleased our funding could be used towards such an exciting activity and hope the scouts enjoy practicing their climbing with the new equipment for many years to come.”
Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to 224 new homes being built at The Fairways. It’s in addition to local investment agreed during the planning process. Anwyl’s sales centre and show homes are open on site.
