The Wybunbury Anglers’ Association received a donation from our ‘Love from Anwyl’ fund to cover the costs of new equipment for its 'Go Fish' events. Fishing has grown in popularity recently, in part thanks to footballers like Phil Foden and other celebrities talking about its benefits in the media. The Go Fish events have been designed to encourage more youngsters to take up the sport, which can help to boost mental wellbeing. ![Anwyl Fishing (3)](https://blog.anwylhomes.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Anwyl%20Fishing%20(3).jpg?width=3445&height=2297&name=Anwyl%20Fishing%20(3).jpg) Paul Harding, secretary of Wybunbury Anglers’ Association, said: “There is national recognition that fishing is beneficial for health and wellbeing by allowing participants to enjoy ‘the great outdoors’. “Six years ago, we started introducing angling to youngsters and their parents by hosting one-day and weekly summer events. Qualified angling coaches provide free tuition and the sessions have been very successful. “Some of the fishing tackle used in the sessions needed to be replaced so we were grateful to Anwyl for the funds they’ve provided towards new equipment.” Phoebe Davies, head of regional marketing for Anwyl Homes, said: “The Wybunbury Anglers Association provides fishing provision to residents across Wybunbury, Shavington and the surrounding villages. There are so many positives to being outside in nature enjoying fishing, which is why we were keen to support the group’s initiative to encourage more young people to take it up as a hobby.” ![Anwyl Fishing (2)](https://blog.anwylhomes.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Anwyl%20Fishing%20(2).jpg?width=3445&height=2297&name=Anwyl%20Fishing%20(2).jpg) Our donation was from the £5,000 Love from Anwyl Shavington fund, which has so far been shared between five local groups including a local Scout group, Shavington Primary School, Shavington Academy and Shavington cum Gresty Parish Council. Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to the 84 new homes we’re building at Queen’s Meadow, across eight acres of land on Newcastle Road. It’s in addition to almost £600,000 worth of community contributions we’ve already agreed to, including £70,000 towards recreation and outdoor sports, £225,000 towards educational provision, over £80,000 towards local NHS healthcare provision, £20,000 towards community facilities within Shavington-Cum-Gresty Parish Council and £20,000 towards community facilities within Wynbunbury Parish Council.
