Rochdale and Bury Home-Start has cooked up support from us to provide air fryers to families in need.
The charity is among the good causes to receive a share of £5,000 via our ‘Love From Anwyl’ initiative linked to the Whittle Brook Park development.
Other successful applicants included Rochdale Mayfield ARLFC, First Heywood Scout Group, St John's Church, Hopwood CP School PTFA and H'all Things Drama (HATD).
Area sales manager Amy Houlihan said: “We were really pleased by the response we received when we invited the Heywood community to apply for support Love From Anwyl. The panel had some difficult decisions to make when allocating the funding to ensure it could be shared as widely as possible to have a maximum impact.
“We’re pleased to be helping Home-Start Rochdale and Bury provide families with air fryers. We’re also supporting sports for all ages and abilities, helping Scouts enjoy outdoor activities, backing a community garden and assisting a drama group.”
With its share of the funding Home-Start Rochdale and Bury purchased 10 air fryers
to donate to families who struggle with managing their fuel bills and those who need support to cook a healthy meal for their family.
Chief executive officer Donna Ardern-McKenna said: “We’re a local charity, supporting families who experience stress, anxiety and difficulties with managing the day-to-day aspects of family life. Most have a low income, causing additional pressures. With the rising costs of food and fuel, parents need a cost-effective way of cooking family meals instead of switching on the oven and so we applied to Anwyl for funding to purchase air fryers.
“Our team of trained parent volunteers will visit Heywood families at home to help parents practically including sourcing simple recipes for low cost family meals, that can be cooked in an economical way using air fryers and slow cookers. This will have a long-term benefit for all family members, especially children who need a healthy diet and warm cooked meals to support their growth and development. We hope parents will then be able to sustain the use of the equipment once our support has ended.”
Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to the 120 new homes we’re building across almost 15 acres of land on Manchester Road East in Heywood.
It’s in addition to almost £5.5 million worth of community contributions we’ve already agreed to. This includes over £2.7 million towards the cost of the new link road connecting the new community directly with junction 19 of the M62. Funding has also been allocated to education, transport, highways, green spaces and sports pitches.
