# A welcome boost for first time buyers

We welcome the Government's proposed new "Your First Home" scheme, which aims to help more first time buyers in England take their first step onto the property ladder.
The initiative will offer eligible buyers an equity loan of up to 20% of a property's value, alongside access to a mortgage with just a 2.5% deposit. It’s designed to improve affordability and support aspiring homeowners who may otherwise struggle to save a larger deposit or secure competitive mortgage products.
We believe the scheme has the potential to unlock homeownership opportunities for first time buyers including those across Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, and Shropshire.
Mathew Anwyl, chief operating officer at Anwyl Homes, said: “We've seen first-hand the positive impact Help to Buy – Wales has had in helping people take their first step onto the property ladder, long after a similar scheme was withdrawn in England.
"The Government's proposed Your First Home scheme has the potential to provide a significant boost for aspiring homeowners in England who've worked hard to save for a 2.5% deposit. By offering an equity loan of up to 20% of a property's value, alongside an initial interest-free period, the scheme could improve affordability, reduce the size of mortgages required and help buyers access more competitive mortgage rates.
"At a time when affordability remains a huge barrier, measures to support buyers are incredibly welcome. We know there's still a strong appetite from people in rented accommodation or living with family to own a home of their own, and this will really help those would-be buyers realise their dream. We look forward to learning more about the scheme and the details of its implementation in the forthcoming Budget."
